Neuschwanstein today belongs to the most frequented castles in Europe. Around 1.3 million visitors tour the Mad King's fairy tale castle per year. In summer, on average over 6,000 tourists are hustled through the rooms which were meant to be lived in by only one resident.

The Fortress Ensemble Ehrenberg
The Castle of Ehrenberg thrones high above the Ausserfern district. Every traveller and hiker is impressed by the long, winding, strong walls which were once the bulwark against military attacks. During the Middle Ages the Ehrenberg barrage was highly fought after because the very important main North-South commerce route passed straight through it. The mighty walls let us guess that one could often hear canonball fire or war clamour on Ehrenberg. Many lords and noblemen lived within these walls, yet one thing is unchanged, the imposing landscape around Ehrenberg still draws visitors from far and near. Today Ehrenberg is an indoor and outdoor event arena with a historical backdrop.
